Crafting Identity for Kiambu County

Design that speaks the language of leadership, accessibility, and community.

My work is driven by a commitment to human-centered design—crafting solutions that empower, include, and inspire. Whether I’m developing accessible public spaces, reimagining visual identities, or creating symbols of governance, I always start by asking:

How will this design impact people’s lives?

Inclusive Voices:

The Adjustable Public Address Lectern

I wanted to capture that same sense of gravitas while ensuring it remained approachable and functional for all users.

Public speaking can be a daunting task, and the last thing a speaker should worry about is the tools at their disposal.

With that in mind, I set out to design a disability-friendly lectern—a platform that empowers every voice, regardless of physical ability.

This lectern is not just a tool; it’s a statement of inclusivity and equal opportunity.

At its core, this project was driven by one question: How can we make public spaces more accessible for everyone?

The visual inspiration for this project was drawn from the iconic United Nations wooden lectern—a symbol of global diplomacy, dignity, and authority.

The sleek wooden finish reflects both tradition and professionalism, while the modern adjustments bring a forward-thinking, inclusive edge to the design.

Key Features

01

Motorized Height Adjustment:

A smooth, motorized mechanism allows the lectern to be adjusted at the touch of a button, accommodating speakers of varying heights and those using wheelchairs.

02

Ergonomic Design:

The lectern’s surface is tilted at an optimal angle to reduce strain on the speaker, ensuring comfortable use for extended periods.

03

Accessible Controls:

Every aspect of the lectern—from microphone placement to height adjustment remote switch —was designed with intuitive controls, positioned for easy access by all users, including those with mobility impairments.

By centering on user needs, this lectern ensures that public forums remain accessible to all, allowing every individual to engage with confidence and authority.

This is human-centered design in action—making sure that no one is left behind when it's their turn to speak.

The product has added value to both Kiambu county leadership and community by adding confidence to hundreds of public speakers who have used it for the last 3 years to address millions of citizens in Kenya.

Designing for People, Leading with Distinction

Status Emblems and Coat of Arms

I had the privilege of designing the status emblems for the Office of the Speaker of the Kiambu County Assembly and the Office of Kiambu County Clerk, along with the coat of arms for the Kiambu County Government.

The status emblems and the coat of arms serve as powerful symbols of Kiambu County’s governance, designed to inspire trust, command respect, and stand as lasting representations of leadership and institutional identity.

Key Features

1.

Distinctive Design for Leadership:

The emblems are purposefully designed to reflect the unique stature and responsibility of the Speaker and Clerk.

The visual elements capture the essence of their leadership roles, ensuring a commanding presence in their offices.

2.

Symbolic Integrity:

The design process involved thoughtful selection of motifs and symbols that convey justice, unity, and authority.

Each detail has a purpose, embodying the traditions and aspirations of the County while maintaining an air of dignity and respect.

The emblems were crafted with the distinct role of the Speaker and Clerk in mind, ensuring that the design reflects their unique authority and responsibility within the Assembly.

3.

Exemplary Craftsmanship:

Crafted with precision and attention to detail, the emblems and coat of arms were created using premium materials, ensuring durability and an impactful appearance in both ceremonial and administrative contexts.

The emblems and coat of arms were crafted using polished brass, a material selected for its elegance, durability, and ability to convey prestige. The polished brass finish adds a timeless quality, ensuring the emblems maintain their impact in both formal and ceremonial settings.
